Mike was born on February 16, 1949, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Dorothy Turner. Born and raised in Port Arthur, he was a lifelong resident who deeply loved his community.
He proudly served his country as an Army veteran, a member of the Texas National Guard, and the Army Reserves. Mike worked many dedicated years at Chevron and its successor companies before retiring from refinery life. After retirement, he devoted himself to helping others and serving his community in countless ways.
He was actively involved with Circle of Hope, Run For The Wall, and served faithfully as Chaplain for Post 7 of the American Legion in Port Arthur—roles that he truly loved. Mike found great joy, pride, and purpose in supporting his fellow veterans, offering encouragement, prayer, and friendship wherever it was needed. His service to others was a reflection of his generous spirit and unwavering faith.
When they weren’t serving their community, Mike and his beloved wife, Linda Wappler Turner, dedicated their free time to working at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, continuing their shared purpose of helping others in their time of need. His warmth, compassion, and faith touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Mike’s deep love for the Lord guided every part of his life, and he was a devoted member of Peace Lutheran Church, where his kindness and servant’s heart shone brightly.
He was a man of service, laughter, and heart, and those closest to him will forever remember him saying: “That’s all for now.”
Mike is survived by his loving wife Linda; his sons Chad Turner and Jason Turner and his wife Rachael; his cherished granddaughter Sydney Turner, along with a host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother Dorothy Turner and his brother Greg Turner.
