Monroe Joseph Johnson, 73, of Port Arthur, passed away Thursday, April 30, 2015. He was born on July 16, 1941, to Mary Alice Turano and Monroe Johnson of Port Arthur. Monroe was the owner of Payless Tires at, 849 Gulfway Drive for 40 years. He attended St. Mary’s School, Bishop Byrne High School, and was a graduate of Thomas Jefferson, Class of 1960. Monroe was a 25 year member of the Golden Triangle Chapter of the A.A.C.A., a long time founding member of Model A Car Club, and participated in car club events of Cavalcade and Mardi Gras. Monroe also sponsored food drives for the Hospitality House on Gulfway Drive. Monroe had no children and is survived by his wife Mary Brandy Johnson.
