Pete Barbosa

Pete Barbosa, age 69, of Port Arthur passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25th, 2026.

He was born November 29th, 1956, in Houston, TX to parents Cruz & Lupe Barbosa. He was a graduate of Bishop Byrne High School - class of 1976 and immediately began his career as Longshoreman with ILA Local 25 in Port Arthur in 1977. From his childhood working in the Barbosa family Meat Market to his 47-year career as longshoreman with the Port of Port Arthur, Pete was no stranger to hard work and has been happily retired since 2024. Pete loved music - and listened through his prized record collection many times over. Pete never missed an opportunity to browse the booths of Larry’s Old Time Trade Days or walk the aisles of the Pawn Shop; these were two of his favorite ways to pass time. Pete adored his family and was no ordinary Uncle - his love & generosity stretched across several generations. Pete kept to himself, but those closest to him will remember his quirky gifts and quick wit, he had the best sense of humor and loads of personality. In his retirement, he enjoyed much deserved rest - watching movies and his favorite daytime TV shows at home, shopping around town and catching up with friends near and far.

Pete is preceded in death by his parents Cruz and Lupe Barbosa, and brothers August (Auggie) Barbosa and Salvador (Sal) Barbosa.

Pete is survived by three siblings; Dolly Dack, Cookie Merriman and Bobby Barbosa; two nephews, Jason Barbosa and wife, Keristen and Brandon Macha and wife, Jenny; four great-nephews, Brock and wife, Kirsten, Jonathan B., Ayden, and Jonathan M.; four great-nieces Makennah, Annslee, Madelyn, Brooks; three great-grand-nephews Gracetyn, Jaxton, and Declan; and many dear friends.

In honor of Pete’s wishes, the family will host a private graveside service in memorialization of Pete’s life with them. Pete will be buried with his parents and brother, Sal, in the family plot at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Groves, TX. Pete’s memory will live on in the hearts of the many people who loved him
