Phyllis Eileen Calhoun, 75, of Port Neches, passed peacefully into heaven on January 12th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born to Kenneth Sr. and Mavis Harrison in Port Arthur on February 10th, 1948 and was a lifelong resident of Port Neches-Groves.
Phyllis was a very proud graduate of PNG high school. During her time there, she was the captain of the Indianettes and always involved in activities that boosted school spirit. She loved her Indians and never missed a chance to wear her favorite color purple and clap her hands to “Cherokee”.
She loved God and had a very close relationship with Him. She ministered and witnessed for God every chance she got. She was the strongest prayer warrior and her personal ministry of handing out prayed over and oil anointed handkerchiefs was truly one of a kind. Her dedication to The Special Olympics and teaching others about acceptance and love was near and dear to her heart. She gave her love freely and absolutely as she amassed a multitude of spiritual children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. And when she married the love of her life she immediately made his children her own. That was how she loved, that was how she lived.
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth Sr. and Mavis Harrison, brothers Kenneth Harrison Jr. and Kevin Harrison.
She is survived by her loving husband of 43 years Robert Calhoun Sr of Port Neches; stepchildren Robert Calhoun Jr. of Groves and Amanda Griffin and husband Scott of Groves; grandchildren Cyrus Griffin and Noah Calhoun, both of Groves. She is also survived by her spiritual children, Raymond Morris and wife Crystal, Monique Fischer and husband Ethan, Carter Morris and wife Mitzi, Meghan Morris, Chelsea Bolding, Shannon Drake, Tammy Jo Flowers and husband Phil, and Will Koenig; along with many loving spiritual grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins and friends. A special mention to Jim, Tricia, and Kyle Williams for holding a very blessed place in her heart.
Visitation will be open to all family and friends on Wednesday, January 17 2024 at 12pm-2pm at Grammier-Oberle in Port Arthur, Texas. Funeral services to follow at 2pm. Burial will follow at Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
A special thanks to Enhabit Hospice for the loving compassionate care given to Phyllis during her last weeks, especially her nurses Amanda McCorvy and Sheri Ballance, chaplin Rolle and all the equipment personnel.
