A gathering of family and friends will begin Thursday July 3, 2025, from 9:30 to 10:30 am, Reciting of the Rosary at 10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church located at 4100 Lincoln Avenue, Groves, Texas. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
Vernon was the youngest of eleven children born and raised in Port Arthur, Texas, graduating from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1950. He married the love of his life, Eugenia Romero (Cowoo), celebrating 63 years of marriage prior to her death in 2016. Together they raised four children, with 8 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Vernon served in the US Army at bases in Washington and Germany. Working for the City of Port Arthur, he was one of the first Certified Health Inspectors in the state of Texas. He then worked at Jefferson Chemical, subsequently Texaco Chemical, until his retirement.
Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Eugenia, his parents, Dallas and Anna Oliver, his siblings Johnny, Cleve, Dallas Jr., Marion, Alda, Irma Bell, Cricket, Lilly, and great grandson Kolin Foster. He is survived by siblings Marie and Shirley, his children, Charlene Meriwether (Ross), Dallas Paul Oliver (Arlene), Bernadette “Bernie” Anderson (Alan), and Vernon “NuNu” Oliver, Jr. He is also survived by grandchildren Michael, Kristen, Leslie, Nicholas, Allison, Matthew, Dakota, and Dallas, great-grandchildren Mackenzie, Andrew, Nicholas, Jaxon, Cayne, Brock, Mia, Reese, Riley, Carson, Landon, Dustin, Reagan, Peyton and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Groves, Texas.
