Willis Fontenot, age 99, of Port Arthur, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, surrounded by love and the legacy of a life well lived. Born in Chataignier, Louisiana, Willis carried with him a rich heritage of Cajun culture, faith, and resilience.
Willis proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, answering the call of duty with courage and honor. After his military service, he built a long and respected career as a pipefitter with Texaco, where he was known for his strong work ethic and dedication.
He was the beloved husband of the late Rosa Belle Fontenot, with whom he shared 71 wonderful years of marriage. Their love and devotion to one another was the foundation of a close-knit family that continues to carry their values forward.
Willis is survived by his loving children: son Kevin Fontenot; daughters Debra Holberg, Susan Singleton and husband Bryan, and Milissa Fontenot. He also leaves behind seven cherished grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him great pride and joy. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss his warm spirit and steady presence.
Willis was preceded in death by his devoted wife Rosa Belle, his parents Ovide and Cesia Fontenot, three brothers, four sisters, his daughter Beverly Nixson and her husband Frank "Nick" and his son-in-law Dennis Holberg.
A man of the outdoors, Willis found peace and happiness in nature. Whether hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying the fresh air, he found joy in life's simplest pleasures. He had a deep appreciation for zydeco and Cajun music, a reflection of his roots and a soundtrack to many lively gatherings over the years.
Above all, Willis will be remembered for the love he poured into his family, the stories he shared, and the quiet strength he offered to all who knew him. His life was a testament to hard work, deep faith, enduring love, and the richness of family.
He leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness, and tradition, and his memory will forever be cherished by all who were blessed to know him.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Grammier-Oberle Funeral Home, 4841 39th St., Port Arthur, TX 77642. A Celebration of Life service for Willis will begin at 12:00 PM, followed by burial with military honors at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 3098 Hwy 69 N, Nederland, TX 77627.
