Born on May 21, 1949, in the Bronx, New York, Gerard carried with him a deep appreciation for his roots and a lifelong pride in his Irish heritage. He built a life centered on love, faith, and family—values that defined him in every way.
Gerard was the beloved husband of nearly 45 years to his devoted wife, Gail. Together they created a strong and loving family that stood at the heart of his world. He was a caring and proud father to David Edelson (Libby), Siobhan Moran Roberts (Phil Roberts), Christine Gonzalez, Matthew Moran (Katie), and the late Joseph Moran, whose memory he held close; Joseph is survived by Rose and Liam.
Gerard was a lay minister for many years working with alcohol and
drug-addicted people. In the early 2000's he transitioned to Winston Preparatory School where he worked with learning disabled high school students. In this position he found a new calling. He loved his students and was in contact with them up until his passing. He retired in 2015 and was still receiving text messages from his students.
Nothing brought Gerard more joy than being a grandfather. He adored his grandchildren— Lucy Gonzalez, Tommy Gonzalez, Sean Gonzalez, Liam Moran, Wilder Edelson, Lake Edelson, Henry Roberts, Shauna Moran, Matthew Moran and Gus Roberts—and treasured every moment spent with them.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert Moran, whom he loved dearly.
Gerard found happiness in life’s simple and meaningful pleasures. He enjoyed hiking and bird watching, often finding peace in nature. A devoted reader, he had a particular passion for theology and was especially drawn to the works of N.T. Wright. His intellectual curiosity and reflective spirit were hallmarks of his character.
Above all, Gerard will be remembered for his deep love of family, his quiet strength, and the warmth he brought to those around him. His presence will be profoundly missed and forever cherished.
A visitation for Gerard will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2026 from 1-5 PM at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 4839 Nesconset Highway, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776.
