Patrick was the beloved husband of 61 years to the late Anne B. McCarthy. He was a loving father to Brian and his wife, Beth; Patrick and his wife, Tara; Kevin; Stephen; and the late Mary. He was the cherished grandfather of Shannon (John), Keri (Connor), Kelsey (Rachael), Patrick; Brendan; and Aidan. He was eagerly anticipating becoming a great-grandfather for the first time, with a great-grandchild on the way.
Patrick was the adored brother of the late Jerry McCarthy and the late Mary Olsen.
A man of remarkable dedication and accomplishment, Patrick devoted his life to serving others and continually challenging himself to learn and grow. He proudly served for four years in the United States Coast Guard, followed by a year and a half with the Merchant Marines. He then joined the New York City Fire Department, where he proudly served for 20 years before retiring.
Never one to sit still, Patrick embarked on a new career in nursing and worked for 20 years at Mather Hospital. His thirst for knowledge and desire to continue contributing led him to yet another accomplishment—graduating from law school in 1988. He originally went into private practice and then went on to work as a law secretary within the New York State Court System in Riverhead, NY. Patrick finally retired at the age of 82.
Above all, Patrick loved his family dearly. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and soon-to-be great-grandfather. He also had a lifelong love of reading, educating himself, and staying busy with meaningful work. His extraordinary work ethic, curiosity, determination, and devotion to his family will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
