Stephanie "Steph" Smith, 38, of Coram, NY, passed away on June 6, 2026, after a courageous five-year battle with Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Born on October 12, 1987, in the Bronx, NY, Steph was a quiet force of warmth, color, and kindness who touched every life she entered.
Steph was never one to put herself first, yet she accomplished remarkable things. She had a double major and a minor from SUNY Oneonta in just three and a half years, and was on the Dean’s List each semester. She even founded a sorority during her time there. Her love of French culture took her to France twice, fulfilling a dream close to her heart. She went on to build a dedicated 16-year career at the IRS, earning the respect of colleagues along the way.
Though shy by nature, Steph expressed herself through bright colors, creativity, and love. She ran a crafting side business making ornaments, and she found joy in the simple pleasures of life: browsing local farmers' markets, savoring pickled tomatoes, and soaking in the beauty of fall, her favorite season. She loved cruises, trips to Chicago and Pennsylvania, and never missed the Christmas Fair in Savannah. Above all, she was a beloved fur mom to her cats Jasper, Mamba, and Sasha, and her dog Poppy.
Steph is survived by her loving husband, Matt Smith; her parents, David and Kate Ringel; her sister, Kristina Gida, with husband, Stephen Gida; her brother, Eric Ringel; and in-laws, Daniel Bergmann, and Sheryl Bergmann.
She fought her battle with grace, and her faith carried her through to the very end. May she now rest in peace while watching over her loved ones.
A Celebration of Life will be held at O.B. Davis Funeral Home (4839 Nesconset Hwy, Port Jefferson Station, NY 11776), on July 11th, from 5pm-8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Stephanie's name to the American Cancer Society.
One of Stephanie’s wishes was that everyone would embrace her love of color and opt out of wearing black.
Cherish yesterday, dream of tomorrow, and live for today.
