Albert E Babb

Babb, Albert E., age 89 of Jensen Beach , entered heaven August 4, 2021, at Treasure Coast Hospice House, White City, from prostate cancer. His wife of 64 years, Joan Babb, predeceased him April 19, 2016, from leukemia, and his daughter, Frances Babb-Farineau, January 7, 2019, from pancreatic cancer.

Born and raised in Taylorville, Illinois, he delivered newspapers to his future wife at age 5. They were in the same 4th grade and dated in high school. Once Al joined the Navy during the Korean War, serving on the USS General H. W. Butner (AP-113), he married Joan four days after Christmas during some shore leave time. After graduating Miliken University in Accounting, he worked in banks, then began working in 1963 for Milnot Company in Litchfield, Ill., raised the girls, developed a good slice with his driver, and made lasting friendships. In 1976, the company had been sold and the principals moved him to Stuart, Florida. His dream of living on the ocean was going to come true. In the 1980’s, he was accounting manager of the Outrigger Restaurant, owned by legend Frances Langford. Because of his honesty, great sense of humor and accuracy, his responsibilities continued with the Langford Foundation.

He did not speak his faith as much as he lived it. Ask anyone who knew him, he was humble, confident, kind and gentle. Raccoons and squirrels would eat out of his hand. A homing pigeon found refuge with him on Hutchinson Island. He volunteered at Martin Health. He took flying lessons and bought his own plane that he kept at Witham Field. Al loved playing golf, swimming, surf fishing, teasing people, reading popular adventure mysteries, and rooting for his girls in their endeavors. He resided at Harbor Place the past four years, continuing to build many more friendships.

Al is survived by his daughters, Shelly Babb Stansfield (Richard), Alison Babb, and grand-daughter, Rachael Singletary.
