Born February 25, 1920 in Bolognetta, Provincia Palermo, Sicily, he was a veteran of the Italian armed forces, having been a German prisoner of war held for 3 years in Linz, Austria. He was freed by allied forces and returned home where he was a mason and electrician before coming to the United States. After retiring from the South Brunswick School District he moved from New Jersey to Florida where he had resided since 1989.
His greatest love and passion was his family. He was an avid gardener and landscaper, entertainer by way of mandolin and accordion, a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his wife of almost 70 years, Vita D'Amato of Port St. Lucie, Fl; son Dominic D'Amato(Toni Ann); daughter, Maria D'Amato-Schwab (Tony); grandchildren, Dominic (Sarah), Dana, Brandon(Jennifer), Breanne, Anthony and Angelina; and great granddaughter Daniella.
He was predeceased by his son Edward "Frank" D'Amato, and his 11 brothers and sisters.
A visitation will be held on Saturday July 14, 2018 from 9:00 a.m.-10:30 a.m. at Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 SE Floresta Dr., Port St. Lucie, followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at St. Bernadette Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. Internment will immediately follow at Fernhill Memorial Gardens in Stuart, FL.
