Bart was a wonderful, kind, generous, and gentle man who lived an amazing life. He lived the America dream, being born and abandoned as a young child in Guantanamo City, Cuba. He became the son of N.B. and Fran Phillips at the age of eight. He came to America with his parents as a fourth grader, never having been to school and speaking no English. His beloved mother prepared him to enter his American school at the age appropriate grade level. He went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Service Medal; Army Commendation Medal; Air Medal; and Good Conduct Medal. He was a nuclear operator with Florida Power and Light for 35 years at the Port St. Lucie facility and also Turkey Point in Homestead, Florida. He retired in 2007. Bart was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed fishing on his boats and the Jensen Beach causeway, as well as lobster season in the Keys with his family.
A Celebration of Bart’s life will be held on Saturday, June 29, 2019 from 1:00pm – 4:00pm at the Fort Pierce Yacht Club, 700 North Indian River Drive, Fort Pierce, Florida.
