He was born January 29, 1927 in the house he was raised, in Middletown, Dauphin County, PA and was the 3rd child of the late Lloyd Ellsworth and Sylvia Elizabeth (Myers) Shenfeld.
On April 27, 1944 he was united in marriage to the late Ethel Mae Tennis in Royalton, PA. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary before she passed on January 1, 2005, at their home in Port Saint Lucie, FL.
On March 22, 1945 Bruce was drafted in to the United States Army in Harrisburg, PA. He was a World War II Veteran, honorably discharged July 29, 1946 at Fort Dix, NJ.
Following his military service, he was employed with the United States Air Force as a civil service employee at Olmsted Air Force Base in Middletown, PA. Upon the closing of Olmsted AFB in 1969, his family relocated to Orange Park, FL and he went to work at the Naval Air Station in Jacksonville, FL as a flight instrumentation technician, retiring in 1982 at the age of 55.
Prior to retirement, he and his wife, along with their son, some friends and contractors, built their home on Anastasia Island, Saint Augustine, FL across from the Matanzas River. In 1986 he and his wife moved to Port Saint Lucie, FL and had a contractor build their forever family home.
Bruce enjoyed hunting, offshore fishing, visiting PA, especially during the fall season, going to the Malls and eating in restaurants. He loved his family visits, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving are his two children, Donna (Keith) Carson, of White Springs, FL; John (Diane) Shenfeld, of Port Saint Lucie, FL; three grandchildren; one step-grandchild; three great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; ten step-great-great grandchildren and one sister, Mildred Elizabeth Hoover, of Port Saint Lucie, FL.
Preceding him in death was a grandson; sister, Betty Louise Brown; brother, Lloyd E. Shenfeld Jr.; half-sister, Irene Louer; half-brothers, Eugene Louer and John H. Drayer. He also leaves behind, brother-in-law, Richard James Tennis of White Springs, FL; sister-in-law’s, Helen Tennis of Winter Park, FL and Helen Ada Pechart, of Sebastian, FL; nieces, great nieces, great nephews, and many friends.
Bruce will be laid to rest at Middletown Cemetery, in Middletown, PA beside his beloved wife.
In keeping with the wishes of Bruce there will be no funeral services. Arrangements are being handled by Aycock Funeral home.
