Cassandra Fitzgerald

She was the daughter of the late Cass and Jane Babiarz of Swansea, MA and sister of the late Mary Louise Connolly of Brockton, MA.

Sandy was an educator for 38 years in the Fall River Public School System. She taught in the BMC Durfee high school in the foreign language department and retired as chairman of that department. As department chair, she with area local high school formed a collaborative and published a Portuguese textbook, "Born Dia" for American student studying Portuguese.

Mrs. Fitzgerald received her Bachelors Degree from Salve Regina University, Newport Rhode Island, her Master Degree from the University of Massachuseets, Dartmouth and her post graduate credits from U-Mass, Bridgewater and Brown University.

Sandy received her Proficiency in Spanish Language and Culture and Culture at the University of the Azores, Portugal. In addition to teaching high school, she was also an adjunct professor at Bristol Community College, Fisher College Johnson Wales University and University of Mass-Dartmouth.

Mrs. Fitzgerald was active in the Polish National Alliance, Knights of Krakow in her Fall River community. In her youth she attended Alliance College in PA and studied the language, folk songs and dance of Poland. She returned to her community and for many years taught dance and song to the youth of the Polish National Alliance.

Upon retirement, she enjoyed traveling, golf, reading, jigsaw puzzles, swimming, tai-chi, and most especially being with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Patrick, her two sons, Patrick Sean (wife, Ingrid) of Berkley, MA, Cass (wife Jessica) of Miami, FL and her most cherished grandchildren, Colin and Ava of Berkley, MA, and Dyland and Brady of Miami, FL. She is also survived by her sister Ann Marie Pelletier of Warren, RI, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you take your loved ones out for dinner.
