

He was born in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late Stefano and Anna Pennino Saporito and was the youngest of 10 older siblings.
After completing his studies at the grammar and high school levels, he went on to do his undergraduate studies at St. John’s University in New York. He continued his studies at Our Lady of the Angels Seminary in Niagara, New York. His Ordination to the priesthood was May 29, 1954 for the Diocese of Brooklyn.
His assignments in Brooklyn were Our Lady of Fatima at Sands Point and St. Fortunato and St. Bernadette Church, where he served as Pastor for over 20 years. He was also the Principal of Mater Christi Catholic High School in Queens, New York.
Monsignor served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII stationed in the Solomon Islands.
He was a retired priest of the Diocese of Brooklyn. Since coming to Port St. Lucie in 2001, Monsignor has spent much of his time at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church in St. Lucie West, where in the hearts of the members of the church family he will always be remembered affectionately as the “Founding Grandfather” of the Parish.
Monsignor Saporito was an exceptional cook; he enjoyed listening to music, was an avid reader, loved playing with his Siamese cat Samson and enjoyed Broadway shows.
Monsignor was a member of the St. Bernadette Council #13042 of the Knights of Columbus and was bestowed an Honorary Life Membership on April 23, 2009. He was also a Sir Knight and member of Our Lady of Fatima Assembly #3090. Monsignor Saporito has been a Knight for sixty years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 9 brothers and sisters.
Survivors include his sister Fannie Sciolto of Ft. Myers, FL; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews as well as great great nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 10:00AM until 7:00PM at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, St. Lucie West.
A Concelebrated Mass of Transferral will follow at 7:00PM with the Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, D.D.J.C.L., Bishop of the Diocese of Palm Beach, Presiding.
Additional services will be held in Brooklyn, NY.
Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery, Queens, NY.
