Born in Yonkers, NY, Dorothy was a resident of Port St. Lucie, FL for 23 years, moving from Ridgefield, CT.
At the age of 20, she purchased and operated a grocery store in Yonkers, NY. During WWII, she worked as a Riveter on airplanes at GE in Tarrytown, NY. She was known by her family as “Rosie the Riveter”.
Dorothy was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Port St. Lucie, FL, and former member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, NY. She was a former member of the Orchid Society in Port St. Lucie, and taught stained glass classes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaetano (Guy) Altieri in 1994; and by a son, Thomas A. Wall.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy Wall of Port St. Lucie, FL; four grandchildren, Thomas Wall, Michael Elston, Michelle Wall, Christopher Wall; and daughter-in-law, Ruthie Wall of Perrineville, NJ.
Visitation will be Sunday, August 18, 2013 from 3:00PM-5:00PM at the Aycock Funeral Home, Port St. Lucie, FL, with a Prayer Service held at 5:00PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, August 19, 2013, 11:00AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Port St. Lucie, FL.
There will be also a visitation at Yannantuono Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, NY on Thursday August 22, 2013 from 4:00PM to 8:00PM.
A Mass of Christian burial will be on Friday August 23, 2013 at 10:00AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, NY.
Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Yonkers, NY.
