March 6, 1938 – April 12, 2016
Elizabeth leaves behind a husband, Leonard, a daughter Denise, and six sons: Leonard Jr., Thomas, Peter, Dennis, Daniel, and Alexander. She also leaves behind eleven grandchildren: Robert, Justin, Noah, Elizabeth, Daniel II, Joseph, Elizabeth, Calisa, Dennis Jr., Sarai, and Melissa. In addition she had four great-grandchildren: Issac, Braden, Kaitlyn and Ezri.
Many who knew her called her Liz, some called her Betty or Bet, and we called her mom. No matter what you called her, that name brings certain characteristics to mind. Liz was known for her kindness and her love. Those who were mere acquaintances were drawn to her because of her gentle, inviting spirit of kindness toward everyone that she met. Her love was both tender and fierce, especially for her husband Leonard and her seven children. Mom had a permanent smile on her face, the eternal optimist, known for seeing the best in everything and everybody. We, the lucky ones who knew her best understand that mom taught us how to live by finding joy in everything, especially the little things. It is this endearing quality that fed her perseverance through her life, but especially the past hard months.
Elizabeth was known for her quick wit and easy smile, but she was most well-known for having the heart of a servant of her Lord Jesus Christ. She consistently served in churches, but more than that, her life was truly a living sacrifice to God in the service of others. She saw with the eyes of Christ, such as in the 1980’s when she exposed the scandalous ways in which a large part of the medical community was refusing care to HIV patients. As she exposed this, it was a catalyst for change. Mom also loved sharing her faith, helping many to establish a relationship with Jesus Christ as their Savior. She was a world changer; her piece of the world was made better by her presence everywhere she would go.
Elizabeth will be sorely missed. Her wisdom, love, and kindness will continue to touch us from the very presence of God. Mom, a true Proverbs 31 godly woman, is experiencing the kind of joy and perfect pain free peace that only the very presence of the Savior can bring. We will always remember the prayer warrior for our souls, the heroin of our family, the great discipler and servant, Elizabeth Sabatino.
