There's a new angel in God's Kingdom.  He is Georgie Cortez.  Although we will miss him very much, I know he is in a better place alongside his loving wife Alijandra.  Georgie, I cried like a baby when I received the news that you had passed on.  We had great times together and as you always lovingly joked, "Everything was AH ITE"  I know you are looking down and smiling at all those who loved you.  We will never forget you.  As for me, I know we'll meet again.

George had a great personality and was very easy to talk to.   He was a true friend and was always there when you needed him for advise or just a friendly conversation.   We shared many laughters and good times together. 
I first met George when we worked at NYS Corrections.  Aside from being a co-worker we became very good friends and met each others family.

When George retired, he moved to Florida and would always invite my wife and I to his house.  We would visit Florida yearly and always made sure we would stop by to visit him.
He would always get excited to see us and always had pre-arranged plans for
dinner,  Stuart boat rides, sight seeing, or just a casual stroll on the beach. We would go Jensen Beach for lunch and he introduced us to many different restaurants including Duffy's, which was his favorite.  

He always treated me like family and opened his home to my wife and I in  a very humble way.  My trips to Florida will never be the same without  George  there to welcome us.  He will truly be missed but the memories and good times we shared will live with me forever.

     George passed with dignity and can serve as a role model for us all. Rest in peace.

I talked & laughed with George the afternoon before he died. I thought of him again later that night (1.5 days before I knew he passed). I remember leaving him, impressed that he seemed to have this easy sense of peace & acceptance about himself & his place in this world. He seemed so confident & easy-It was spirtually infectious. I felt love for him & felt I was in the presence of someone who had "figured it all out". That day, he was so agile & quick to help out a helpless neighbor. He had an easy laugh & sense of humor that comforted everyone around him. He had such a realistic & accepting view of his place in this world, it just seemed to exude from him. Sounds cliche' but at my 'young' age of 47,I envied him that day for this. I knew "viscerally" that this man had "chosen" acceptance of life despite what life dealt him & all his sorrows that I knew were so real in his past. It gave me hope for peace in my life. A confirmation to me that happiness is truly "a choice". I will try a little harder because of George.
