It is with tremendous sorrow that we announce the unexpected passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and dear friend, George Joseph Kijewski on January 20, 2024. He was 74 years old.
George was born in Lincolnshire, England on March 19th, 1949, to the late Aleksander and Jadwiga Luczakowska Kijewski. His parents were Polish immigrants, and he was the second eldest of five (Chester, Andy, Agnes, Mike). He met his late wife Joanna (2017) at Gloria’s Farm Market, Milford, Connecticut. They wed in 1968 and had four children (Georgette, Joseph, Charlene, Rachel).
George is survived and missed by all four children, their spouses, one granddaughter and her spouse, three step-grandchildren, their spouses, seven great grandchildren, three siblings, their spouses, several nieces and nephews, and countless friends, colleagues, and acquaintances. They include daughters, Georgette (Scott) Beck, Charlene Camillo, Rachel Kijewski, and son, Joseph Kijewski; brothers, Chester (Ania) Kijewski, Andrew Kijewski, and sister, Agnes Phipps; granddaughter Jessica (Sergio) Presutti, great grandson Armani, three step-granddaughters, Melissa (Josh) Humphries, Jennifer (Bryan) Brady, and Brittany (Dustin) Tanner; and six step-great grandsons, Asher, Luke, Jude, Andrew, Zachariah, and Callum.
George was a creative visionary entrepreneur who started working as a young boy. He lived up to the meaning of his name “farmer,” which is of Greek origin, for he has been a landscaper, horticulturist his whole life. He started his own landscaping business when he was about 18 years old. He was the owner of several multimillion-dollar commercial landscape firms, one in Connecticut and another in Florida after he and his wife relocated. George shared and passed on his love of nature and landscaping with all the Kijewski family members, who all have a green thumb. George had several nicknames: Big George, Gorgeous George, G, Poppa bear, G-Pa, and Jurek (his name in Polish). He was a man with a strong work ethic, committed to his values. He had the most generous heart and helped many in need throughout his entire life. He was a giver and contributor. George was a go-getter, achiever, and never shied away from any challenge or obstacle in his path. His daughter Georgette compared him to Monet because of his visionary abilities to see what others could not see in potential projects. He was beloved by everyone he met. He and his late wife supported many philanthropists’ causes together and continued to do so long after his wife passed. When the Port St. Lucie Police Department went through serious layoffs where many officers were let go, he with no fanfare gave each one of them a gift card of significant value for groceries. His philanthropic endeavors additionally extended to supporting vulnerable communities in need, work on immigration issues, local mutual aid projects and donating to environmental preservation.
George treated all his employees like family members, and many consider him to be a father figure. His family and friends love him greatly and will miss him terribly. George was a wonderful, loving, loyal, kind, empathetic, and hardworking man. He was still working and running his own business right up to his passing. George loved his mystery and crime movies, walking in the parks with his two beloved dogs and best friends, Rocky and Bella. They instigated many fun adventures that only brought chuckles from their fur dad, for they could do no wrong and were with him to the very end.
