Jim was born in Cleveland, Ohio to Louis and Helen Rodic. He had an older brother Lou (Louis Rodic) and a cousin, Bobby (Robert Solinsky) who grew up with them. In high school, mutual friends introduced Jim to Christine Bralski. The young couple dated then corresponded through letters and taped reels during Jim's military service when he was drafted for the Vietnam War. Jim served in the U.S. Army for two years, first as an infantryman and then as a driver.
Jim and Christine were married on July 5, 1969, and honeymooned on a road trip to Florida, seeing St. Augustine, visiting Jim's grandfather (Joseph Marinen) in Riviera Beach and then driving all the way down to Miami. With years of fond memories of childhood summer vacations to the Sunshine State, Jim told Chris they would move to Florida one day. Before then, Jim and Chris started a family of three children Stacey (Anastasia), Laura (Laurie) and Jamie (Jimmy).
Jim moved the family to Lake Park, FL during the recession in 1975. He found work as a cab driver and manager of a gas station where he used his CB handle "Big Jim." He eventually landed a security position at the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant in Fort Pierce where he worked for 20 years, and he lived in Port St. Lucie the rest of his life.
It was not just looking for work and the sunny climate that made him want to make the move south, Jim wanted easy access to fishing! From the Jensen Beach pier to Blue Cypress Lake to the Indian River in Sebastian, his love of casting a line would shape his own family vacations. Jim and Chris invested in four weeks at Oyster Point and Oyster Bay in Sebastion of every year (in April, June, September, and October) where Jim was a notable regular, trucking a wagon of gear down to the fishing boats. He made many friends on the dock, swapping fishing notes and telling tales.
Jim and Chris have been members of St. Lucie Catholic Church since 1978. Jim was a One Blood donor, consistently donating every 56 weeks before infirmity sent Jim and Chris to Harbour Place where they have lived for the past four years and enjoyed making many friends with residents and staff.
Jim is survived by his wife, Christine of Port St. Lucie; his daughter Stacey and her husband, Mark Johnson of Lynne Haven; his daughter Laura and her husband, David Aguiar of Titusville; and his son Jamie Rodic and his wife, Lesley of Winter Springs. His grandchildren are Brooke and Austin Johnson, and Ansley and Emery Rodic.
