Throughout his life, Jay loved boats and the water. Shortly after high school he moved to San Diego, CA and quickly became employed with a company doing maintenance and repairs on naval vessels.
When his sister relocated to Phoenix, AZ, Jay decided to give desert living a try. However, after a few years, the yearning for the sea brought him to Port St. Lucie, where his parents had retired. He immediately began working as the engineer on tug boats. This was a role he loved and it took him up and down the east coast to the Caribbean and the Gulf of Mexico.
Jay was one of those people that “never met a stranger” and he also had a great love of music. He loved to sing and taught himself to play the guitar, banjo and piano. Wherever he was, he found time to play and sing at clubs, church, or charity events. He also collected vinyl records and has accumulated over 3000.
Jay was a member and deacon, a trustee, and sang in the choir at the First Congregational Church of Port St. Lucie.
He is survived by his father, James, and his sister, Ann Phillips.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, December 3, 2016, 11:00AM at the First Congregational Church, 2401 SE Sidonia Street, Port St. Lucie FL 34952, followed by a reception.
Interment will be at the Stinchcombe family plot in Flint Memorial Park in Mt. Morris, MI. There he will join his mother, Edith and family members.
Arrangements are entrusted to Aycock Funeral Home, 1504 SE Floresta Drive, Port St. Lucie, FL 34983 www.aycockportstlucie.com
