Born in Linstead, Jamaica on April 13,1941, he was the son of the late Egerton S. Godfrey and Vesta D. Godfrey (née
Chambers).
Karl attended Dinthill Technical High School in Jamaica where he excelled in Math. His membership with the Dinthill Old Boys Assn.
remained active up to his passing. The untimely loss of his father prompted the family’s move to Kingston. There, under the
sponsorship of Uncle Harold Godfrey, “Papa G”, Karl was recruited as an Apprentice Technician at Jamaica Public Service (JPS).
Karl migrated to Canada circa 1968 but chose the US (Connecticut) as his home two years later. He married, raised two daughters, was
Confirmed in The Faith at St Luke's Episcopal Church in New Haven and prospered in Connecticut for 35 years. Karl’s remarkable
aptitude for mathematics led him to a distinguished career in computer science. Retiring from both Southern New England
Telephone Company (SNET) and Computer
Sciences Corp (CSC).
He then relocated to Port St. Lucie, FL. Karl’s extended family grew when he joined the Episcopal Church of the Nativity and
flourished in 2004, when he joined the Caribbean American Cultural Group (CACG). His impactful involvement with his church and
CACG was a labor of love that continued until his passing. Karl also loved to cook and travel, so the soles of his feet tread the earth
of many countries. Azerbaijan was most memorable, but it was Ghana in 2001 that was most impactful. He found his roots, was
enstooled as a Chief and bestowed the title Nana Kobina Ababio III (the child that has come again).
Besides his parents, Karl was also predeceased by his brother Ansel Godfrey and sisters Joyce Brown and Icelyn Thomas.
Left to cherish his memory are daughters, Dara M. Godfrey (Son-in-law Roger Johnson), Sherona L. Godfrey, grandchildren,
Parris, Autumn, Ishshael, Judah, Dia & James, great-grandchildren, Daishawn & Nyla, siblings, Michael “Bonny”, Jeanette
“Jean”, Valerie “Pansy”, Joan and Jennifer. His devoted longtime partner, Karlene Knight who supported, honored and loved him until
his final breath. He is also survived by a cherished extended family and a host of loving friends.
May his soul rest in eternal peace!
