Lloyd George Bucknor was born on October 19, 1951, to Bernice and George Bucknor in the District of Mile Gully in Manchester, Jamaica. Due to being registered a month later, Lloyd had the blessing of celebrating two birthdays per year. He attended the Mile Gully Primary School and High School before leaving to work as a welder at Alcan Jamaica Ltd. He was also a member of the Mile Gully Seventh-Day Day Adventist church.
He migrated to the US in 1971, where he attended Jamaica High School in Jamaica, New York. He left school, and with his skills in welding took a job at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. Wanting a change in his career, Lloyd left the welding trade and began a 43-year career as a health care worker at North Shore University Hospital, now Northwell. While working and taking care of his family, Lloyd continuously pursued his dreams in furthering his education. He earned his GED. He studied Nursing at Queensboro Community College and Nassau Community College where he earned an Associates in General Studies.
He ended his career in 2018 retiring to Port Saint Lucie, Florida.
Coming from a musical family, Lloyd was a music enthusiast. At an early age he learned to play the piano, organ, and taught himself to play the guitar. Anyone who knew Lloyd, knew him as the music man. He was always playing music on his sound system in the basement on speakers he built himself. He loved all types of music, most notably country, reggae, and the golden oldies. Lloyd even tried his hand at DJ-ing. He accumulated hundreds of 8-tracks, reel-to-reel, vinyl records and CDs in his day.
Outside of music, Lloyd was a great cook. He loved trying new recipes and buying new gadgets to cook with. He loved watching Westerns and Comedies and enjoyed a good conversation about politics. Lloyd was known for giving jokes and his boisterous laugh. He also enjoyed cruising (though he hated flying to get there).
In June of 1980, Lloyd married Nezlyn “Pansy” Marshall. Through this union they had two children: daughter, Tamara “Tammy”, and son, Dwain. He also gained stepson, Damian Johnson. Lloyd is survived by his wife Pansy of 41 years, children and granddaughter, Eden; his siblings Claude (wife, Carmen), Raymond (wife, Vivene), Clayton (wife, Tracey), Kenneth (wife, Wendy), and Sonia (husband, Vertis); a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and close friends.
Lloyd now sleeps along with his mother, father, and sister Eda. Lloyd will be dearly missed by both family and friends, but will always be remembered as a jolly, kind, dedicated and loving man who would do anything for his family.
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. When the Lord returns, He will put an end to death and our loved ones asleep in his name will be called to meet Him in the clouds.
