Loretta (Johnson) Dakers, affectionately known as Miss Delcie, was born on June 8, 1948 to parents, Reginald Johnson and Esmie Thoms in Steerfield in the parish St Ann Jamaica, WI. Living a wonderful and purpose filled life, Loretta left us to be with her savior Jesus Christ on July 8, 2024. She was one of seven children in a uniquely blended family with brothers, Hugh Thompson, Ranford Thompson (both deceased), Phylis Johnson (deceased), Leebert Johnson, Gloria (Johnson)Simmons and Errol Brown.
Loretta's early education started at Epworth primary school and transferred to the Golden Grove all age in the parish of St Ann. On April 16, 1966, after a brief courtship, Loretta married her childhood sweetheart, Elisha Augustus Dakers, in a beautiful ceremony. Elisha relocated to the area and they both had given their life to the Lord at Calvary gospel Chapel in the Steerfield St Ann. The union produced five children, Anne Marie Dakers (Marriett), Clifton Dakers, Richard Dakers, Loraine Dakers and Serena Dakers. In her early childhood Loretta was like a tomboy, she could hold her own with all the boys; she played all the games, cricket, marble, she was one of the very few girls who learned to ride a man’s bike, she could box like a boy and was always picked in any sport. As a stay-at-home Mom, she managed the family business and gained a reputation as a generous and compassionate person, always a giver, giving to the needy and raised her family to do same in an upright and Godly manner. Loretta was an extremely talented singer, gifted with range and could hit any note, even without voice training, and was sought after by the assemblies where she ministered regularly. She was also an amazing cook; her parties were events you marked on your calendar. Loretta migrated to Boston, MA in 1983 and her family later joined her. She became a member of Community gospel Chapel in Roxbury, MA.She continued to offer her talents and service at the church in Roxbury. She worked with the Baron family as a Nanny, and retired as her health began to fail. Loretta and Elisha moved to Pawtucket, RI but continued their fellowship at Community Gospel Chapel. When her husband retired, they finally moved to Port St. Lucie, FL where she bid Farewell to this world and left for heaven.
Loretta is survived by her husband Elisha, children, Ann Marie, Lorraine, Serena, Clifton and Richard, a host of grandchildren, and great grandchildren, sister, Gloria Johnson (Simmons), brothers, Leebert Johnson and Errol Brown, Uncle George Gray, aunties, Elfreda Housen, Daphnie Hickey, Loreta Duckett, several nieces and nephews, cousins too many to number, in-law, friends and well-wishers.
