Richard McGeough entered military service in the Air Force branch and proudly served his country for 20 years, including tours in the Vietnam War. After his retirement from the Military, he worked at Dupont for 20 years as an instrument mechanic. On November 28th, 1958, he married Bridget (Griffin) McGeough after meeting at a military ball in Montreal, Canada, where she called home. They welcomed their son Brian, daughter Nancy, and son Richard respectively over the next few years. His family was the most important part of his life.
Richard was born in Waukon, Iowa on November 15th, 1937, to Bernard and Bernice (Meehan) McGeough, and raised in the small town of Rossville, Iowa where he grew up with his sisters and parents. He retired to Port St. Lucie, Florida to be closer to his children and grandchildren. Richard was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle. He enjoyed sports of all kind- but particularly baseball, football, NASCAR, and golf. Many Thursday nights were spent at the spring training games for the New York Mets, and he was always seated with family and friends to cheer on the Buffalo Bills every Sunday they played. He also enjoyed playing cards, particularly a game of Euchre with his family, famously advising that you can always count on your partner for two tricks.
Richard’s family and friends benefited from his wonderful sense of humor, often sneaking in one-liners when least expected and making everyone laugh. He was kind, generous, and very unselfish. He was clever and intelligent, and always gave great advice to his children and grandchildren on the “real world”. He was liked by all he met, and loved by all who knew him.
Richard McGeough is survived by his three children: Brian (Carrie) McGeough, Nancy McGeough, and Richard McGeough all of whom reside in Port St. Lucie, FL.
Grandchildren: Megan McGeough and Matthew McGeough of Port St. Lucie, FL.
Siblings: Colleen Crosthwaite of Modesto, CA, Kathleen (Rick) Eshelman of Davenport, IA, and Jane (Mike) Sullivan of Evergreen Park, IL.
Richard is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by wife, Bridget (Griffin) McGeough on December 16th, 2014, and his sister Mary Anne Madrigal on February 11th, 2021 and parents Bernard and Bernice (Meehan) McGeough.
