It is with profound sadness that the family of Robert “Bob” Johnson announces his passing on September 16th at the age of 81 in Stuart, Fl. Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who touched the lives of all who knew him.
Bob was the oldest of 6 children, born on January 7, 1944, to John Robert Johnson and Charlotte Guertin Johnson in Waterbury, CT.
He was a dedicated member of his communities of Savanna Club in Port St. Lucie, Fl, and Goshen and Northfield, CT. His countless contributions to these three communities have left a void that will not soon be filled. Bob was a member of the Northfield Volunteer Fire Department for 62 years, serving in many roles including Chief and a member of the building committee. He served on the Litchfield Board of Finance and Board of Selectman, and was a Eucharistic Minister of St. Thomas church in Thomaston, CT. He was an active member of the Tyler Lake Community in Goshen and the Treasurer of the Savanna Men's Club in Port St. Lucie. There were very few activities in Savanna Club that he was not directly or indirectly involved with. He loved his retirement community and the friends that he made there, as well as the friends and family that he brought with him from Connecticut.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice Duffy Johnson, his daughter Jill and her husband Charles Beaudoin of Northfield, AFS Daughter Carmen Barra and her husband Sergio Castro of Chile, grandchildren Robert (Geena) and Louis Bongiolatti, Tyler and Makayla Beaudoin, Rosario and Roberto Castro, great grandsons Jack Johnson and Theodore Bongiolatti, sisters Denise Russett and Susan Ventresca, brothers Roger (Connie) and Ronald (Kathy) Johnson, brothers-in-law James (Barbara) Duffy and Thomas (Jean) Duffy and we many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son, Jeffrey Robert Johnson, grandson, Dylan Thomas Johnson, and sister, Rita Brown.
Bob had a passion for fixing and building things and for helping others. If a sentence began with “Bob, can you…” the answer was always “Yes.” He loved people, his family, and life. Giving to others and his contagious smiles are his legacy.
In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Northfield Volunteer Fire Department, Knife Shop Rd., Northfield, CT 06778 or Savanna Men’s Club , 7868 Horned Lark Circle , Port St. Lucie, FL 34952
