Ronald Lewis Baxter, 64, passed away after an illness, on March 15, in Palm City, Florida. Born in Lewistown, Pennsylvania, Ronald grew up in the village of Maitland, Pennsylvania, where he played on the Maitland softball team. He was employed by the American Viscose Division of FMC Corporation in Lewistown prior to moving to Florida. He graduated from the Penn Highlands campus of Chief Logan High School’s vocational technical school in 1972.
He is survived by his parents, Pearl Brannon Baxter of Stuart, Florida, and Harold Baxter (Ellie) of Woodbury, CT; sons, Richard Baxter (Briette),of Waynesboro, PA., Cory Baxter (Ashley), of Lewistown, PA, sisters Mary Baxter White (Nick) of Port St. Lucie, Florida, and Jan Baxter Blackburn (Vernon) of Radford, Virginia; brothers Michael Baxter (Shirley) of Maitland, Pennsylvania, William “Bill” Baxter (Rose) and Steven Baxter (Liz), all of Radford, Virginia, aunts Lois Brannon Cosentino (Bob) of Gibbsboro, New Jersey, Anna Mae Zimmerman and Shirley Baxter of Lewistown, PA., grandsons Owen, Jax and Pierce Baxter, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was especially close to his great nephew, Antonio Morales, of Coral Springs, Florida. He is pre-deceased by his common law wife, Pamela Nail, his grandparents, Rachel and Andrew Baxter, Esther and Lewis Brannon, several aunts and uncles, and a grandson, Lynden Abraham Baxter.
Ron was a sawyer and a commercial security systems technician. He enjoyed woodworking, helping care for his great nephew during school breaks and summertime, and visiting his beloved “turtle pond.” He especially liked comedy, gardening, home remodeling, taking pictures, listening to vintage rock bands, and hosting all of his “northern” visitors. He was passionate about his Pittsburgh Steelers football team. He will be sadly missed.
