

Verna was born in the former Anna May Hospital of Spring Lake on Aug. 2, 1926 and was the daughter of Flora Bryan-Hurst and Harold Bryan. Verna was raised in Neptune and Belmar where she graduated Belmar Elementary School Class of 1940. She attended Manasquan H.S. where she was a cheerleader; while there she met her future husband Joseph N. Ehret, Jr.. Verna moved to Miami, Fl for her senior year of h.s. and graduated from Miami Senior H.S. class of 1944. Verna returned to NJ where she enrolled in the cadet nurses training program at the then Monmouth Memorial Hospital, Long Branch. While in training she married Joseph N. Ehret, Jr. June 30, 1946. After marriage they moved to Belmar and began to raise a family, eventually moving to Wall Township. While raising her family of 4 children she became an active member of her community. Verna was involved in the Monmouth Council of Girl Scouts, serving as a troop leader; she was very active in the Wall Township PTA; a member of the Monmouth County Extension Group and served on the Board of Elections of Wall Township. Verna was a 60 plus year member of the Wall Chapter O.E.S #143 serving as the Worthy Matron on two occasions. She was a parishioner of St. Uriel’s Episcopal Church in Sea Girt where she served as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible school leader and was a member of the Women’s Guild.
After raising their family in Wall Township Verna and Joseph moved to South Carolina. She once again became an active member of her community. She served in the Altar Guild of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Gastonia, NC and was an active member of the York County Extension group. She also taught underprivileged adults how to read.
Verna and Joseph eventually settled in Port St. Lucie, FL.. While there she was an active member of the St. Lucie River Chapter of the D.A.R.. Throughout her lifetime Verna was able to cultivate the fine arts of cooking, baking, painting, needle crafts and was an avid gardener.
Verna is predeceased by her beloved sister Linda Bryan Runyon of Spring Lake Heights and her parents.
Verna is survived by her devoted and loving husband of over 67 years Joseph N. Ehret, Jr., her daughters Cheryl Lorraine and Valerie Jean all of Port St. Lucie FL; her son Joseph N. Ehret III of NC and her son Bryan K. and wife Debra Spring Lake Heights NJ, a son-in-law David H. Zeak Brick NJ and a brother-in-law Berton S. Ehret of NC. She is also survived by 9 Grandchildren, 8 Great Grandchildren, 1 Great Great Grandchild, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations in her name to St. Uriel’s Episcopal Church 219 Philadelphia Blvd. Sea Girt NJ 08750 or Treasure Coast Hospice 1201 SE Indian St Stuart FL 34997 would be greatly appreciated.
