Bill worked 44 years as a detail draftsman for Ingalls Iron Works Co. Verona PA, a manufacturer of structural steel.
He was a World War II Veteran as a radio/morse code operator in the Army Air Force from 1944 to 1946.
He was preceded in death by his father Thomas Wesley Kirby Sr. (1883–1935) and mother Hilda Dittmar Kirby (1887-1973).
He was a member of the Lewes Presbyterian Church in Lewes, De. where he served as an usher, clerk of Session greeter and caretaker of the altar candles . After retiring to Rehoboth Beach, De. he enjoyed sitting on the beach or boardwalk with a bag of roasted peanuts or kettle popcorn. He spent many hours puttering in his garage making wooden bird houses and decorative shelves for family members.
He was a quiet, kind and gentle man who trusted in God, loved his family, and served his country.

Survived by his wife of 75 years Florence Young Kirby, children Susan K. Di Iorio (Jim) and William J. Kirby. He is also survived by four grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and preceded by one great grandchild, James Shannon.
