David Weston Nies, of Portland Maine and, formerly, Little Falls New Jersey, died on April 6, 2023, two weeks short of his 73rd birthday. David had a deep love of all things related to water, from serving as an aquatics camp counselor in high school, to attending the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y., to living in the Harbor City of Portland for the past 20 years. He was an Eagle Scout, a Member of the Portland Chapter of the Eagles and a dedicated employee of The Home Depot in South Portland for 17 years. He is survived by sister Leslie Nies of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, brother Rob Nies (Eva) of Millington, New Jersey, first cousin Lea Hench (John), three nieces and a nephew and six grand nieces and nephews. David was predeceased by his longtime companion and love of his life, Christine Kimball, of Portland Maine. Donations in David’s name may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine, The Gosnell House.
