Deborah (Matthews) Dudley (Nov. 15, 1953 - May 22, 2026) has found light after living in the darkness of dementia. She is survived by her husband Nate who brought joy, love and security to Debbie's final season of life. Debbie is joining her parents; Carolyn and Robert Matthews, brother Bobby, and her baby boy Derek. We hope her reunion with those she loved and lost, will embrace her for us in peace. She is being remembered by her children; Deirdre, Melissa, Andrea, Bethany, Travis, and Chelsea along with her grandchildren; Andrew, Matt, Sam, Gabe, Connor, Ian, Ethan, Bailey, Owen, Tanner, Evelyn, and Cooper. She will also be missed by her brothers and their families; Tommy and Mike Matthews, along with friends, colleagues, and neighbors for the memories they shared together. Deb grew up in Westbrook and raised her family on Brown St. She worked as a lunch lady, making connections with thousands while in the local schools. She waitressed at the Cornerstone restaurant and cleaned for UNE and Point Sebago. She used to participate in craft fairs, as she painted with a steady hand and had beautiful penmanship. She was witty, charming, hard-working, and resilient. She raised strong, independent children with all the love available to her. It was a blessing to watch her soften and bloom in her love with Nate and enjoy her years of retirement on their plot of land in Casco.
Dementia came early for Debbie and eventually dimmed her light. Her family takes comfort in the hope that these final years allowed her to say goodbye to this world and hello to the next, gradually, instead of all at once. Even as she lost her words and mobility, Deb's charm and inappropriate humor could still shine through. We hope those that think of Debbie join us in remembering her laughter, sass, and grit. We thank the staff at Fallbrook Commons and Affinity Hospice Care for their support and compassion during this journey. We send our condolences to all those that loved, supported, and cherished Deb. A celebration of life will be held at Bruno’s Ocean Star Banquet Room located at 33 Allen Avenue Portland, ME on Wednesday, June 10th between 5:30 and 9:00. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the Alzheimers Association.
