

Dennis was born in Portland, ME on July 18, 1948 a son of the late Raymond & Hazel (Ward) Hayward. He attended local area schools, including Portland High School.
He spent twenty eight years working for Rufus Deering Lumber Co. in Portland before retiring due to illness.
He was a member of the Veterans Alliance and the former Voltigeur Club, both in Biddeford. Dennis also enjoyed deer hunting, especially with his Dad and was obsessed with movies, especially war movies; he also collected coins.
He is survived by a son Stephen Hayward and his wife Kelly of Hollis and two daughters Michelle Demers and her fiancée Vaughn Hanson of Biddeford and Melissa Mattson and her husband James of South Portland. He also leaves eleven grandchildren Kayla and her husband David, Kordell, Isaiah, Kyra, Nick, Corbin, Avery, Alex, James, Joey and Liam as well as a great grandchild Brady, four siblings Jerry Hayward and his wife Pearl of Gorham, Joyce Imoto and her husband Harry of Clarksville, TN, James “Jimmy” Hayward and his wife Bonnie of Raymond and Cindy Stoddard of Omaha, NB and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday, February 26, 2015 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Wilde Memorial Chapel in Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Ave., Portland followed by a graveside service at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress Street Portland at approximately 1:30 p.m.
