Born and raised on Munjoy Hill, Michael will be remembered as a hard worker who spent most of his life loving and providing for his family and friends. As the eldest of six children, he learned early on how to work and share with everyone. He worked and earned a good reputation as a painting contractor for many years alongside of all of his siblings. Later including son and partner and grandsons. Some days required sacrifice, but Michael and his wife of 59 years and childhood sweetheart, Linda Fowler, always put their family first and their friends ran a close second. He adored his grandchildren and showered them with everything he thought would make them happy. He spent a lot of time at the skate park in Windham with grandson #1 Mikey and more time at all the baseball games with grandsons, Cameron, Caleb and Cayden.
Earlier in his life, during his rare free time, he built and raced cars, cared for his own racehorses. In later years he watched all of these on the computer.
Michael was predeceased by his parents, Edward J. Babbitt and Michaelene (Mickey) Fagone Babbitt, his brothers, Richard (Ricky) and William (Billy) Babbitt.
His presence will be deeply missed by his brother Robert ( Bobby); his sisters Patricia (Patty) Prescott and Janie Babbitt; his daughter, Michelle McCartney and her husband James McCartney; his son Edward(Mike) Michael Babbitt, Jr. and his wife Lucia Aceto Babbitt; as well as his grandchildren who all called him PaPa, Edward (Mikey) Michael Babbitt III, Marcus Leo; Cameron James McCartney, Caleb Michael McCartney, Carmen Babbitt, and Cayden Joseph McCartney, He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
