His childhood was fun; lots of baseball at Andrews field, playing street games on Granite Place with all the neighborhood kids, swimming at Cunningham Park, caddying at Furnace Brook. He spent hours in the basement with his dad, where they had an elaborate train set, making homemade root beer in the summer, and discussing the properties of different tools they used together.
Every summer the family went to Derby, Vt. where we rented a cottage on Salem Lake. These were sacred times he kept with him forever, fishing for hours with Dad and appreciating nature.
He graduated from Milton High in 1964, and off he went to Orono, Maine to the School of Engineering. He was a political activist during those turbulent times, protesting the Viet Nam War and being a Conscientious Objector. Along the way he made some great friends ,drank alot of beer, played soccer, taught his friends and family to appreciate many genres of music; Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Hank Williams, Ry Cooder, Lyle Lovett, The Rolling Stones to name just a few! After graduating from UMO, he took a road trip out west in his old Alfa Romeo, breaking down here and there on his memorable adventure. He returned to Maine, ran the Rock Bottom Garage as a mechanic, and got a dog. He and his friends had some times! Expeditions involving canoes and whitewater, fishing, camping! He and dad built our own camp on Little Salem, in Derby,VT. that was a lifelong treasure for Ted. All the while Ted was long distance running ( a number of Marathons, countless pairs of running shoes), working as an Engineer at Maine Med, doing carpentry on the side, avidly reading, running his dog, gardening, sailing, fishing, the Celtics. He was very proud of being a Professional engineer and his many work connections. He was competitive, smart, funny, generous, stubborn, and difficult. His hobbies, his passions, defined him; smart pretty women, fast cars, loyal dogs, his Amigos family. He will not be remembered for his sunny disposition, but for his cryptic remarks, like "Life is NOT a dress rehearsal". His life was full and his friends made it special. It was a good run.
There will be a Celebration of Life on June 9, 2024 at 6 Timber Farm Way in Falmouth, Me. from 1-4. Ted didn’t really like traveling, but his beloved sister gets the last word, as his friends will take his ashes to all sorts of wonderful places.
