Scarborough, ME -- Elizabeth (Betty) Rounds, 81 of Scarborough, ME passed away peacefully on May 18t at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House with her closest family and friends at her side. She was a proud woman, choosing to live in silence with her illness rather than "worrying others with her troubles."
Betty was born in Wilkes Barre, PA on August 31, 1930, to James and Ann Kane. Betty spent many years in New Jersey with her beloved Aunt and Uncle, Betty and George Hanadel, until moving to South Portland, Maine. It's there she met and married Osborne (Bob) Rounds, her husband of 65 years, after his return from the Marine Corps. They later moved with their daughter AbiGaile (Gail) Kane to Blue Point in Scarborough, ME. Living near the ocean was important to Betty, as she couldn't imagine living anywhere else. She could often be found at her favorite beach location at Pine Point.
Betty worked for years as a waitress at Lano's Restaurant in South Portland, retiring to spend time with her husband and enjoy her friends and family. She will be remembered as a warm, giving and social woman. When she was invited to your home for a gathering, she always brought one of her homemade delights. Her husband kidded, "For someone who couldn't boil water, she became the best cook Ever." If you were lucky enough to be on her Christmas list, you received homemade Needhams, chocolates, and a variety of other goodies. When she wasn't spending time with family and friends, she was cooking or knitting something for them.
Betty is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband Bob and daughter Gail; sister Anne Tucker of PA, and sister Mary Horton and husband Murray of PA; cousin-in-law, Shirley Hanadel of NJ; special niece Kim Hanadel of NJ; nephew-in-law Dick Thompson and wife Hazel of ME; many nieces and nephews; and dearest friends Laura Ward and husband Don of South Portland, Beth and Jeff Quirk of Scarborough, Janet MacLaughlin and her daughter Quinn of Old Orchard, Calvin Varney of Saco, and longtime pen pal Marianne from California.
Betty was predeceased by her brother James Kane and his wife Regina of PA; brother-in-law Roland (Steve) Rounds of ME; special cousin David Hanadel of NJ; and brother-in-law Charlie Tucker of PA.
Services will be private.
