Wells, ME -Esther “Essie” Brosius, 90, of Wells went home to be with the Lord on August 21, 2020 while at Avita Memory Care Facility, Wells where she received loving, compassionate care.

Essie was born September 18, 1929 in Westford, MA, to parents Willard F. Moore, Sr. and Edna (Sargent) Moore. She graduated from Westford Academy.

Essie married Donald E. Brosius, the love of her life, in 1954. Don was in the Army and she traveled with him to his posts, Maryland, Germany, Utah and Washington. In 1968, Don was sent to Vietnam and was killed in action; Essie moved back to Massachusetts with her two children. She was an amazing mom providing for her family.

All her life, Essie was a hard worker. As a child on her parent’s farm and as a young adult as a nurses’ aide at Lowell General Hospital. Later while raising her children, she worked when her health allowed, driving special needs children, working in the school cafeteria or chambermaiding. She also raised honey bees, helped out at the “Hole in the Wall” Restaurant … she was always doing for others. She was a true servant.

Essie moved to Wells to be close to family and she and her sister lived together for over 25 years before her health declined and she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law.

Essie loved to knit and was known for her mittens. She loved to bake, especially Congo Squares and Zucchini Bread. She loved going for rides with Butch, saying “you know how to get everywhere” and she enjoyed going to the ocean and feeding the seagulls.

Essie was never happier than when she was with family. Essie is survived by her daughter Ruth Farnsworth and husband Linwood “Butch” of Wells, grandson Christopher Brosius, granddaughter Jennifer Brosius of Wells, her sister, Ruth Barry of Kennebunk. She was predeceased by her son, Donald E. Brosius, Jr. of Sanford and her brother, Willard F. Moore of Florida.

An Outdoor Service (weather permitting) will be held at Messiah Christian Church, 2700 Post Road, (Rt. 1) Wells, Maine on Thursday, Sept. 3, 2020 at 4:00 pm.

I haven't known Essie long, but she was one of those special people that made a lasting impression. I will never forget her beautiful smile. You couldn't help but smile back, because she lit the room right up. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
