Frederick Roger Kennedy II
June 9, 1955 – November 11, 2019
Scarborough, ME - Frederick “Fred” Kennedy passed away on November 11, 2019 at the Gosnell House in Scarborough Maine. He was born in Portland, Maine.
Fred was a security and corrections officer who had a deep admiration for first responders and for those who serve and have served in the United States military. He was also a skilled woodworker and loved the upbeat music of the 60’s and 70’s.
Fred was raised to do what was right and just uphold the law that protects us all. Those who had the privilege of knowing him know that he would accept nothing less. In addition to being a man who would sacrifice his own life for the safety and well-being of others, Fred had an amazing sense of forgiveness choosing to give love to others, forsaking the fear or reality that he might not gain that love back. Fred was a good man and truly is missed.
For heroic actions, Fred received the Good Samaritan Award from the city of Portland Maine’s fire Department. Fred received letter from Adams management company Inc., a housing company in Portland Maine. The letter states: “A few years ago there was an unfortunate event of a fire in the building Mr. Kennedy took it upon himself to aid people and evacuating their apartments. In the most heroic event of the evening, he kicked down the door of one apartment and pulled the tenant out of the flames and to safety. That is one of the many examples of Mr. Kennedy taking initiative to help others”. Fred also received a letter of praise from the Portland city transit district. Fred was thanked for the action he took in regard to criminal activity on a Metro bus. The letter states that “...his immediate support of the safety and welfare of the operator is worthy of praise”.
Fred was predeceased by his mother and father Irene Kennedy and Frederick Kennedy. He is survived by his Daughter Jessica Zimmer who resides in Pawhuska, Oklahoma, his sister Althea Kennedy - Lisbon Maine, brothers: Ted Kennedy - Auburn Maine, Tim Kennedy and John Kennedy who both reside in Portland Maine.
Fred was a loving father. Above all he loved his daughter Jessica. She was always in his heart and on his mind. He would always talk about her.
Fred believed in God and that God is love. He knew that in the purest scene... He talked a lot about being and living "born again" He shared that with everyone through loving them.
He would often reach out and meet new people. He loved having conversations and could easily make new friends. In his final moments his family held him, close saying: “see you later, we love you”. Fred did not believe in saying goodbye.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate his life on Saturday, November 30, 2019 at 1 PM. The celebration will be held at Amistad Peer Support and Recovery Center located at 66 State St., Portland, Maine, second floor. It was there that Fred found support and friends when he really needed them. We will share stories, Mountain Dew (among other options) and pizza. Both of which were Fred‘s favorites.
