George Ray Ruby

Born on October 29, 1936, to Joseph and Dolly Ruby, George lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty, laughter, and an unwavering love for his family and friends.

A proud graduate of Lisbon High School's Class of 1955, George married the love of his life, Louise, on September 15, 1956. Affectionately known as "Handsome George" and "Gorgeous Louise," the two shared a remarkable love story and 65 wonderful years of marriage until Louise's passing in February 2021. Their devotion to one another was evident to everyone who knew them and remains an inspiration to their family.

George was proud to serve his community as a longtime member of the Lisbon Volunteer Fire Department. He began his working life at the Lisbon I.G.A. before joining his brother Joe in purchasing Freddie's Restaurant in Hallowell. Together they managed the restaurant and worked side by side as chefs. George took great pride in feeding people, and he became famous for his delicious lobster Newburg and homemade Indian pudding. Family gatherings were always made a little more special by the meals he lovingly prepared.

Never one to shy away from hard work, George later became a carpenter before finishing his career at Bath Iron Works as a crane operator. Even in retirement, he stayed busy, lending a helping hand at his son Peter's business, Sabattus Disc Golf, where he enjoyed visiting with family, friends, and customers.

If there was one place that truly captured George's heart, it was Blanchard, Maine. Countless memories were made there hunting, fishing, telling stories, and sharing laughter with his lifelong gang of friends. Those friendships were among his greatest treasures and stand as a lasting testament to the kind of loyal, genuine man George was.

Above all else, George cherished his family. He leaves behind his daughters, Joyce Sarchi and her husband, Charles, and Becky Jones; his son, Peter Ruby; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever carry his love, wisdom, and the many memories he created with them.

George was predeceased by his beloved wife, Louise; his brothers, Joseph and David Ruby; his sister, Diantha Landry; and his stepbrothers, Otis and Robert Nelson. While his family grieves his loss, they find comfort in knowing he is reunited with the love of his life.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the compassionate staff of Montello Nursing Home and Andwell for the exceptional care, kindness, and dignity they showed George throughout his time there. Your love and support meant more than words can express.

George will be remembered for his warm smile, his generous heart, his incredible work ethic, his love of the outdoors, and the unwavering devotion he had for those he loved. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched. Though he will be deeply missed, his stories, laughter, and love will remain with us always.

In keeping with the wishes of both George and Louise, a Funeral Mass celebrating their lives and enduring love will be held at Holy Trinity Church, Frost Hill Avenue, Lisbon Falls, on August 15 at 11:00 a.m.
