

SANFORD -- Harry L. Gauthier, 90, of Lewiston passed away Sunday, June 10, 2012, in Sanford with his loving wife and sister by his side. He was born in Kennebunk on September 27, 1921 the son of Charles and Doris (Dawson) Gauthier. He grew up in the area and attended local schools. Harry served for 4 years in the United States Army during World War II as a Rigger. Being a rigger, he worked on military docks and piers doing all types of general rigging. He set up A-frames, cableway, and chain blocks. He spliced rope and wire and was familiar with all rigging equipment and procedures. He served in Guadalcanal, the Hawaiian Islands and the New Hebrides Islands. After separating from the Army, on September 2, 1947 he married Irene Paradis and they started a family. During that time, Harry worked for Bates Mill and as a local hand sewer. He finished out his career at the Brunswick Naval Air Station until his retirement. Harry will always be remembered for his love of spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and for his wonderful sense of humor. He was loved and will be missed by many. He is survived by his wife, Irene Gauthier of Lewiston, two daughters, Pauline Royal of Lewiston and Diane Hesketh and her companion Rick Baril of Minot, two sisters Lila Kulp of Birmingham, AL, and Margaret Marceau and her companion Ernie MetCalfe of Sanford, ME, 6 grandchildren; Dawn Lapierre of Lewiston, Jayson Lapierre of Texas, Ryan LaRochelle of Auburn, Tiffany LaRochelle of Minot, Amanda Hesketh of Minot and Peggy Royal of Lewiston. He also leaves behind 8 great grandchildren. He also leaves his close nephew Steven Dupont and his wife Shelia of Monrovia, CA as well as several other nieces and nephews. Harry was predeceased by a daughter Angela Lapierre and a sister Dorothy Dupont.
