The community of Greene, Maine, and beyond mourns the loss of a truly remarkable woman, Heidi Farrell Libby, who passed away on May 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on June 26, 1958, in Wilmington, Massachusetts, Heidi was the cherished daughter of Frank and Barbara Farrell.
Heidi's life was a testament to love, resilience, and creativity. She graduated in 1976 from Edward Little High School in Auburn, Maine, and soon after, she married the love of her life, Richard Libby. Together, they created a beautiful family and a life filled with shared adventures and deep devotion. Though Richard passed in 2018, his memory lived on in Heidi's heart and through their children, Matthew Libby of Turner, Maine, and Katie Libby of Greene, Maine. Her legacy continues through her beloved grandchildren, Camrin Libby and Parker Charest, who brought immense joy to her life. She leaves behind three siblings, Valarie Levasseur and husband, Ernie; Scott Farrell and wife, Rhonda; and Mark Farrell, including several cherished nieces and nephews. Matt and Katie would like to convey a special thank you to their Aunt Val for taking exceptional care of their mother for ten months.
Heidi's professional life was as varied and dynamic as she was. A dedicated stay-at home mom, she opened her heart and home to many neighborhood children through her daycare. Following Richard's passing she skillfully balanced multiple roles while taking over as sole proprietor at Lincoln Street Radiator, Lewiston, Maine. Her dedication to her family and business was unwavering, and she wore many hats with grace and resilience. Heidi worked as an Educational Technician at Oak Hill High School (RSU4) Wales, Maine for twelve years. She also worked as a secretary at the Law Offices of Hornblower Lynch Rabasco and VanDyke, Lewiston, Maine.
Creativity was a cornerstone of Heidi's life. She found joy in working with her hands, whether sewing, painting, or refurbishing furniture. Her artistic talents were manifest in the beautiful dolls and blankets she crafted, and her passion for antiquing led her to share her creations with local shops. Heidi's generous spirit was evident in her willingness to share her artistic pieces with family and friends.
Her love for animals, especially dogs, was profound. Heidi couldn't resist taking in dogs in need, and her home was ruled by these beloved companions. Rosie, her cherished French Bulldog, was her constant companion, a testament to Heidi's enduring affection for her four-legged friends.
Heidi and Richard shared countless adventures, particularly their love for four wheeling. Even after Richard's passing, Heidi continued to embrace life with joy, relishing open-top jeep rides with the wind in her hair and laughter filling the air. Her greatest joy and place of solace was her camp beside the Carrabassett River in Kingfield, Maine, where she welcomed family and friends to share in the beauty of nature and the warmth of her hospitality.
Heidi's character was defined by her quick wit, unwavering generosity, and infectious kindness. Her warm smile and the light in her eyes could brighten any room. Her favorite saying, "What the Hell?" often brought laughter and light-heartedness to those around her, reflecting her spirited and endearing personality. Many times while reading books to her children, she improvised and changed the story to make sure Matt and Katie were paying attention. As we remember Heidi, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and light. Her legacy of kindness and creativity will continue to inspire all those who had the privilege of knowing her. Heidi will be deeply missed, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and community.
A service to honor Heidi's life will be held at Grace Lutheran Church, 757 Summer Street, Auburn, Maine, on May 28, 2026, at 11:00, where family and friends will gather to share memories and celebrate the beautiful life she led.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Heidi's memory to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, 55 Strawberry Avenue, Lewiston, Maine, honoring her deep love for dogs.
