Irene Ross Card

Yarmouth, ME -- Irene Ross Card, 81, passed away July 18, 2014 after a four year courageous battle against dementia and Alzheimer’s disease. She had family at her side for the last four days of her life and had spent the last three months at Bay Square at Yarmouth.

Irene was born in Hebron, Maine on Sept 16, 1932, the daughter of Reginald and Evelyn Hibbs Ross. The family moved to West Paris where Irene attended school. She was a graduate of West Paris High School in 1951 and later attended Bliss Business College. She lived in Lewiston and worked in the office of the Bates Manufacturing Company. In 1953, she married Al Card and thus began a 61 year marriage complete with two children and five grandchildren. During this period Irene worked as a secretary and ultimately retired from the State of Maine and the Office of Substance Abuse in 1994.

Irene was a member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Augusta and a longtime member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority (Laureate Lambda Chapter) of Augusta.

She was predeceased by her parents and several aunts and uncles.  She is survived by her husband, Albert Card of Augusta; a daughter, Linda Card Leblond of Cape Elizabeth, a son-in-law, William Leblond, also of Cape Elizabeth, and their children Will and Ross Leblond; a son, Ryan Card, and his wife Leigh Ann and their children Hannah, Kathleen and Andrew, all of Woolwich; a brother, Wayne, and his wife Roberta of West Paris and their sons Rick, of Dresden, and Steve, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. She is also survived by two step-grandchildren, Sam and Ellie Leblond, of the Washington DC area.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service on Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 209 Eastern Ave, Augusta, ME.

Interment in the Maine Veterans Cemetery, Augusta will be private.
