Daughter of Kostak and Anna (Hudek) Buzek, Irene was born in Springfield, Mass on June 18, 1932. She grew up in Berwick ME and graduated from McIntosh College with a Secretarial Degree. In May 1951, Irene married Herbert E. Towle of Dover NH, her dance partner, travel cohort and life-long love. They settled in York Harbor to be near the ocean and raise their three girls and enjoyed their retirement years in Kittery Point. Irene moved to Portland in 2005 after her husband’s passing.
Irene loved her Herbie; her girls and their better halves; her grandkids; MOST definitely her dogs; her scotch; moving furniture around in the middle of the night; baking in the sun at Cow Beach; playing bridge; loud dinner and dance parties with family and friends; Frank Sinatra, Rod Stewart and Neil Diamond; scary movies; gardening; reading a good book; lobster, banana cream pie and coffee ice cream with hot fudge.
Irene was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Herbert Towle, her brother Walter Buzek and her granddaughter, Rebecca Kelso.
She is survived by her three daughters, Bonnie Mee and husband, David, of Dover-Foxcroft; Kymberley Towle Cournoyer and husband, Paul, of Portland; and Tamsen Towle and husband, Scott Moseley, of Arlington, Mass.; three grandchildren, Juliane Delozier, Fiona Moseley and Keegan Moseley; and four great-grandchildren, Zane, Kirsten, Gage and Bryce Delozier.
Irene was surely a spitfire and will be sorely missed by all! A celebration of her life will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital: https://www.stjude.org
