Jane Margerite Miles

November 10, 1944December 31, 2020

Jane Margerite Shaw-Miles (Janey), 76, of Freeport, Maine passed away in her home on Thursday, December 31, 2020.

She was born November 1944 in Portland Maine, the daughter of Frederick Shaw and Alice Miller.

Janey was a loving and compassionate person. She had the most beautiful laugh that could light up your soul. Janey loved her family, friends, church, and God. She enjoyed Christmas, having parties with her friends and family, laughing and telling stories. Janey had a passion for stain glass as well as photographing her family and scrapbooking. Her love for dancing was an amazing part of her life and if you had the opportunity to watch her and her husband in each others arms on the dance floor you knew that the love between them was a rhythm of its own.

The relationship she had with her husband, Robert W Miles Sr., was not like any other. Janey was a wonderful wife that after 63 year together and 58 years of marriage was as in love with her husband as the day they met. Most of all she loved and adored her children and grandchildren, they were her world. If you were lucky enough to be present when she gazed into her children and grandchildren’s faces, the pure joy radiating from her would blind you. Janey wanted nothing more for them than to have a wonderful life.

Janey was the President of the Women’s Auxiliary of the Maine State Plumbers Association as well as a volunteer for many non-profit organizations.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Alice Shaw; sister, Patricia Miller and brother Donald (Ducky) Shaw. Janey is survived by her loving husband Robert Miles Sr.; 4 son’s, Robert Miles Jr. and his wife Wendy of Freeport, Glenn Miles of Freeport, Craig Miles of Gray, and Shawn Miles of Yarmouth; daughter, Raeleen DeBuhr and her husband Robert of Brooksville, Florida; 13 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service and celebration of Janey’s remarkable life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that acts of kindness and charity may be given to individuals or organizations of one’s choice in Janey’s memory.

To say I loved you would be an understatement. As one of your “extra” grandchildren, I don’t think you could’ve made me feel any more a part of your family, then if I was actually born into it.I am so blessed to have had you a part of my life for the last 15 years. And to have spent five of those years renting your garage apartment, and sharing numerous dinners, laughs, and good times. I cherish those memories more than you know. You and Papa welcomed my whole family as part of your family, and I think I speak for my entire family when I say they were so appreciative of your kindness, your generosity, and your love. You are like no other! And I’ll tell you this, you were definitely the first love of my husband‘s life! You and Rob shared such a special bond, and it was so evident to everybody around, that he was your golden boy! And if somebody didn’t know, he made sure to tell them he was your golden boy! Although life goes on, it will never be the same without your beautiful face here with us. And Papa, I know you’re reading this, and just know as much as we all loved Grammy, is as much as we love you! And we are so thankful to still have you, and to get to live out the rest of your life as neighbors.
All my love,

Big Bob, little Bob, Raeleen, Shawn and Craig,
So very sorry to hear of your loss. Janey was always such a true light on this earth! Been thinking about the times we hung out at your home in Yarmouth and how Janey was always welcoming, funny, truth telling , and caring. I remember how she loved each of you so dearly, saying family and god are everything. Please take care of yourselves and each other and sending warm thoughts and big hugs to each of you.

I was lucky enough to meet Jane through her daughter, Rae, the love of my life. Bob and Jane accepted me in the family- I believe from day one. I felt the love of a mother right away, (Dad might have taken a little longer…lol). For a decade Mom and Dad stayed with us in Florida for the winters, which gave me and my family the opportunity to really get to know them. I’ll never forget the special bond Jane had with my grandmother. We had a lot of fun, I always looked forward to those times, and I’m very blessed to have those memories. She also had no problem catching me up on all the Miles family stories and a lot of video proof to back it up too. So I feel like I’ve been part of the family a long time. In a small group, or a party of 200, she lit up a room like nobody else, and could host it at the same time! She was always on the go, and always spreading joy along the way. She probably did 100 years’ worth of living in 76 years, and touched countless lives in the process. She was always so full of life and laughter, it was contagious. That's why I had to post a fun pic of us. She always had a great story to help you out, and she always encouraged people to be their best, and to consider others. You will truly be missed. My prayers go out to the rest of the family.

Mom, Your dedication to God, your love of family, your thoughtfulness to friends, and kindness to strangers will be remembered. I’m blessed my wife is so much like you.
Thank you for her.
I will miss you.
Love always,
Your Favorite Son

No matter where life has taken you, you must never forget those special people God has put in your life along the way. One of those very special people in my life was Jane Miles. She taught me how a mothers love is to be unconditional. She was a true friend to everyone. She was always helping others in need. She taught me to be strong and be true to myself. I am so thankful and a better person for having her in my life. My heart is hurting... I am praying for comfort and peace for her family, friends and all those whose lives were blessed, changed and made better just by her being a part of it. She was dearly loved and will be truly missed. ❤️

Janey.. I have known her for many years, she & my sister Irene were sister in laws at one time, but she was much more to my sister through the years, also she was the sister I couldn't be as with living in RI , I thank her for always being there for her, My other memories will always be how much she loved her husband, children, grand & great children, she always had a kind word & a smile that would light up a room, Many blessings to Janey, Bobby and all the Shaw - Miles family

I miss you more then my heart can handle. I miss your laugh and your infectious smile. I miss your hugs and hearing you yell “my baby girl is here!” I would give anything to hug and kiss you just one last time. However I know you are dancing and having the time of your life in heaven. I will never forget one of my favorite memories of you when Hayden and I got engaged. I rushed right over to your house to tell you the news and never have I ever seen you scream and jump up and down in such happiness and excitement. Looking back on that day is what gets me through these hard times. You have been one of the most important people in my life and I will cherish all of the memories we made together. You were my source of comfort and I know I will always have you in my heart. I know that wherever life takes me you are going to be cheering me on high in the sky and will always be with me. You are the most beautiful, loving, caring, and passionate women I have ever met and I hope as I grow up day by day I can be half of the women you were. You changed so many lives and touched so many hearts Grammy. You should be proud of the family you created. We couldn’t of done any of this without you. Fly high Grammy. Until I see you again. I love you with everything I have.

Your baby girl

Jane never affected my life however she had a much greater impact. She affected my daughter Aerial. Every little video call, or just being in Maine with Jane was so much for my sweet Aerial. She came home and told me that Jane was so pretty and she hoped she looked like her and Grammy when she got older. She would tell me “mommy, she has such a soft voice and her hands were always warm when I touched them.” When I told her about her passing, her first reaction was “mommy, you know what? She’s probably smiling down at papa, and I hope she’s so proud of my Grammy.” It’s the little things that she says that sneaks away into our heart. Sending so much love from our hearts to yours.

Love always,

Aerials Tennessee Family.
