Berwick, ME – Janet Thompson Brooks, 67, of Berwick, collapsed at home on Monday, August 18, 2014, her daughter Courtney was by her side. Janet passed away shortly after being stricken at Wentworth Douglas Hospital in Dover, NH after being joined by her daughter Heidi and her best friend Roberta.
She was born on March 21, 1947 in Rochester, NH a daughter of the late Stanley H. & Maude E. (McLeod) Thompson. She was a graduate of North Berwick High School in 1965 and then went on to attend Ricker College in Houlton, ME. She then married Dr. Ronald C. Brooks of Gorham and spent 23 years together, raising their two daughters.
She owned a small gift shop in Gorham called “The Cat’s Meow”, managed Serious Sun Tanning Salon in Portland for 5 years and was also a CNA for many years working in assisted living as well as home health care. Janet fell in love with Naples, FL, after spending a few years living down south.
Janet taught Sunday school at the First Congregational Church in Gorham and was very close with Jesus Christ. She was also a member of the Gorham Gardening Club.
She was an avid tennis player and was a member of the United States Tennis Association, until she was not physically able anymore. She also enjoyed the beach, the ocean, loved music and loved to dance to Rod Stewart. Janet loved gardening and loved playing the piano. Her greatest loves in life however, were her two daughters and her two grandchildren. She would drop everything to help her daughters and did just that until her last days here on Earth.
Janet had an uncanny sense of humor and was always making folks smile and feeling loved; she will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She also had a great sense of style, which went well with her beautiful smile, sparkling blue eyes and had a beautiful soul.
“The meek shall inherit the Earth and the best things in life are for free” ~ Janet Brooks
