

Scarborough, ME – Jean A. (Barker) Curtis, 91, of Portland died on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She was the wife of the late John B. Curtis Jr. who died in November 1996.
She was born in Athol, MA on March 3, 1923 a daughter of the late George and Eva (Burns) Barker. She grew up between Athol, MA and Portland, ME, graduating from Deering High School. She married her husband John on October 1, 1944 and celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1994.
Jean was very involved in the on goings at her home at Northfield Green for the past thirty seven years. She enjoyed attending the many day trips they would organize. She spent much of her free time playing Bingo and cards and in her younger years was known for her painting, specializing in landscapes. She enjoyed all the Boston sports teams and watching golf on television. Her greatest joy was when she was spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary Curtis of Old Orchard Beach and Harry Curtis and his wife Cynthia of Dracut, MA, and a daughter Patricia Trod and her husband Glen of Litchfield, NH. She also leaves five grandchildren Robert and Jeffrey Bourgeois, Aimee Curtis-O’Neill and her husband David and Sabrina and Andrew Curtis and five great grandchildren, Erin and Ryan Bourgeois, Elizabeth, Allison and Erin O’Neill as well as a brother Carl Barker and his life partner Barbara Reed of Falmouth, a sister Olive Riley of Westbrook, a sister-in-law Inga-Lill Barker Kunkle of Yarmouth, a cousin Barbara Emens of Washington State, numerous nieces and nephews and her special friend Vera Delaney and all the other residents from Northfield Green. She was also the sister of the late George and Earle Barker and the sister-in-law of the late Arthur Riley, Nancy Barker and Rose Barker.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a graveside service on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Brooklawn Memorial Park, 2002 Congress Street, Portland with Salvation Army Major Brian Smith officiating.
