Standish, ME - John William “Captain Jack” Howell 65, of Standish, Maine, passed peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, March 21, 2021 at his home.

While dealing with many personal adversities, John found his sobriety in 2013, an accomplishment that he was truly proud of. “Clean and serene” as John would say. He was involved in AA and Narcotics Anonymous, and spent his time helping others to achieve the same.

I met John Hoot-n-Howell in the early 70s on the streets of Portland. We became fast friends. I moved out of Portland in '78 and over the years we lost touch. I would see him every now and then and he would always greet me laughing and ask "where's the paahty. I haven't seen him in many years and will miss knowing he was out there somewhere. RIP my friend...
