John Maurice Mitton Sr.

John Maurice Mitton, Sr, 81, passed away at Gosnell Hospice House, Scarborough, Maine on June 20, 2026. He was born in Portland, Maine on April 11, 1945 to Doris Alberta Thorne and Maurice Earl Franklin Mitton. He is survived by his two sons John Maurice Mitton, Jr (Jennifer) of Los Angeles, CA and Timothy Michael Mitton of Falmouth, ME and his grandchildren Maurice Alfredo Mitton, Ian Gabriel Mitton, Nicholas Timothy Mitton, Zachary Robert Mitton and his former wife and friend, Katherine Mary Mitton. He was predeceased by his parents, stepfather, Louis Philip Jenkins, and his granddaughter, Andrea Glorianne Mitton and his sister, Barbara Erskine Mitton Klimek.

John was a graduate of Yarmouth High School and a proud US Navy veteran serving in the reserves aboard the USS Tills and active duty on the Samuel B. Roberts DD-823. He retired from New England Telephone and Telegraph Co/NYNEX/Verizon in the Real Estate Department as an HVAC Technician in 1995.

He will lovingly be remembered for his dedication to his family, his sense of humor and how he loved life gardening, fishing, boating and creating in his workshop.

The family would like to give special thanks to John's long time friend, Ronald Kreusel for his support, Birchwood at Canco, especially Debbie Stanley, and Gosnell Hospice House, and Andwell Health Partners for their many, many kind and caring ways. At John's request, there will be no services.
