Born in Mt. Holly, NJ, Josh lived in Germany from 1989 until 1992 while his father was stationed in Baumholder as an active duty member of the US Army. In 1993 his family first moved in with his Nanny Rose and Pop Joslin in Monroe, Maine and eventually they settled in Hampden, Maine where he enjoyed playing little league baseball and also football with the Bangor Youth Football league. He graduated from Hampden Academy in 2001. Josh played varsity football and ice-hockey while a student at H.A. As an adult, he played semi-pro football for the Penobscot Sea Dragons, the Eastern Maine Warriors and the Southern Maine Raging Bulls. Josh truly loved the game of football and passed his love for that game and his favorite team, the Philadelphia Eagles, on to his son, Joshua.
In August of 2011, Josh moved with his family to South Portland, Maine. He worked for Wendy’s in Portland and Windham for a few years, was a long-time employee of Becky’s Diner and, just recently, a new employee at the Hannaford Distribution Center in South Portland.
Josh is survived by his 14-year-old son, Joshua, whom he loved and adored more than anything in the world. He is also survived by his parents, John and Nancy (Cushing) Sparacio, his grandmother, Edna Cushing, of Portland (formerly of Millville, NJ and Jay, VT) and his grandmother, Sally Simpkins, of Millville, NJ. Josh is also survived by his brother, Kyle, who lives with his family in Pownal, Maine and his sister, Renée, who resides with her family in Ft. Myers, Florida. Josh loved his brother and sister immensely and would have done anything for them.
Family was very important to Josh and he really enjoyed being part of a large family. His Maine family includes family members from the Cushing side: his Aunt Mary and Uncle Bill of Windham and his cousins, Melissa and Amanda and their families; he also has uncles who live with their families in California, Kansas and Virginia. He has family members from the Sparacio side of his family who live in Maine as well. Josh is also survived by Cassandra Alexander and Tracy Dube, both of Maine.
Josh has many extended family members from both the Sparacio and Cushing sides of the family who are from New Jersey, including his Aunt Sherry and Uncle John and his cousins CJ, Jill, Jessica and their families.
Josh had a tremendous work ethic and a huge heart. He was always willing to lend a hand to his friends and family members, no matter what the task. He was extremely helpful to his mother and father on a daily basis and will be sorely missed. We are all so proud of the adversities that Josh overcame and the loving person that he was. May he rest in God’s loving arms and remain forever in our hearts.
