

She was one of two children born to Eugene and Bernice Lewis in Wilmington, Delaware. Mary was married to her beloved husband Bob for almost 65 years before he passed away in 2015. They met and later wed in the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Delaware. She graduated from the University of Delaware in 1951 with a teaching degree and later earned a Masters in Reading Education.
Mary was a passionate teacher and reading specialist for over 40 years. She often volunteered to teach adults and children to read. It gave her great joy to know that she was able to give the gift of reading to someone. Another passion of Mary’s was painting. She was a talented watercolor artist who shared her love of art by teaching her children and grandchildren how to paint.
She is survived by her children; Mark (Elizabeth) Lowe, Taccie (Charles) Hall, Laurie (Mike) Roy, Shelley Phillips, ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Stephen Phillips.
A memorial service will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Wilmington, Delaware at 11:30 am, September 25, 2021.
