Peter unexpectedly passed away Saturday, June 14, 2025. Pete was born in Laconia, NH in 1940, one of five born to Irene and Alcide Durette. He grew up in Red Bank, Portland, ME and Kennebunkport, ME. He attended Kennebunk High School and received a varsity letter in track and field. One of his proudest moments as a teenager, was when he was sixteen years old, he won the “Biggest Buck in Maine” award the deer he shot that was over 202lbs. He entered the military right after graduation and proudly served in the Army as a mechanic and sharpshooter, stationed in Korea and Germany. He returned home to Kennebunk in 1962 and married his high school sweetheart, June, and had three children, Peter Jr., Tracey and Scott. In 1962 he started working as a long-haul trucker at Hussey Seating Co., worked part time for the Kennebunk Police Department, was a Deputy for the York County Sherriff’s Dept. and was the Fire Chief for the Wells Branch Fire Dept. In 1970 he moved to Wells Branch into the home he built (with some help from friends) for his family. Pete loved stock car racing, he raced a car at the Arundel Speedway then worked as a mechanic for Raymond Leach and later as a mechanic and jack man for Jeffrey Stevens. Pete loved to travel with his beloved wife, June. After he retired from Hussey Seating Co. as the Supervisor of Shipping in 2001, he and June went cross county in their RV and again when June retired in 2004. They visited every state in the US seeing all kinds of “once in a lifetime” sites. Pete was twice selected to participate in a veteran flag ceremony, once at Mt. Rushmore and again when he visited Disney World with his grandchildren. Pete and June wintered in Davenport FL after retirement and loved to cruise. They visited almost all of the Caribbean Islands, Alaska twice, Hawaii once and the British Isle.
Pete was a fun-loving man that loved his family and lived life to the fullest. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, June Durette, their three children; son Peter Durette Jr. and his wife Cathy, daughter Tracey St.Laurent and her husband Scott, son Scott Durette, three grandsons, Nicholas Durette, Branden St.Laurent and Ryan St.Laurent; brothers Paul Durette and his wife Anne, and brother David Durette and his wife Patrica. He is predeceased by his brother Richard Durette, brother Thomas Durette and sister Pamala Durette-Hutzler as well as great-grandson Lincoln Durette.
